Throughout these days I have had the opportunity to get to know my community more, understand everything they do, and really connect with them. I think people should take the time to learn about these communities and all the hidden gems they hold.
This area is unlike any other, the friendliest we have surveyed in my opinion. From Vermont and Pico to Mariposa and Pico, this area was simply a very comforting and friendly area to survey in.
I attend a youth group at the school in St.Thomas, and although I walk by the area every Friday, I never get to interact with the community; it's just people from the youth group I get to interact with.
But after today, I got to say that it was very amazing to get to know people from this community better instead of just passing by them. I got to interview a few businesses around the area where I usually pass by, and it feels good knowing you know a bit more about what they are, what they sell, and how it goes for them economically.
It was a great experience and an honor to be present at the press conference in Grand Park with Eric Garcetti. During the conference we got to listen to inspiring stories of other people in our communities. We also got the chance to learn about other great partnerships like 7- Eleven who have been helping improve teen employment. The mayor has been improving teen employment with dedication and hard work and we can see his progress through the jobs that are being offered through schools around Los Angeles.
This picture also helps me recapture those summer days as a kid going to park with my parents, staying up ‘till dark, going home exhausted after a day of fun in the sun. Living in Westlake I’ve only seen the park improve, with new play areas, and turf for sports like soccer and football, with even more plans to better the park. This park always gives me a sense of old memories and new ones, going back to my youthful days and the days now, the park almost works like a time machine bringing back old memories and making new ones.
