Reyna: Pico Union

When we walk around the streets of Pico Union and Westlake we tend to just pay attention to the bad things. We never realize the positivity that this community has because in spite of its bad reputation it manages to make a mark. These images caught my attention because small things like these are what represent the community. People create these images because this is the way they communicate everything they feel. The image on the left, for example, was painted to honor Senor Romero de las Americas. Senor Romero de las Americas is known for helping the Salvadoran community, and the community is thankful for all that he did. Throughout these days I have had the opportunity to get to know my community more, understand everything they do, and really connect with them. I think people should take the time to learn about these communities and all the hidden gems they hold.
