On our very first day of orientation, we were put into groups in order to name some challenges, famous areas, and things we liked in the LA Promise Zone. After we named them, we had to write them down and put them on post-its according to where they were on the map. This was one of the first times we were able to connect as a group. It was difficult for me because most people went to school together and I was an outsider. But, quickly they started conversations with me which made me feel welcomed. The picture below was taken when we presented our maps to the group. Sharing my map was important to me because not many people knew some of the places I liked and appreciated. After my presentation, my group understood what mattered to me.
