Elder joined the LA Promise Zone in early 2016 as a Program Associate, where he played a key role in supporting the implementation of LA Promise Zone strategies. He staffed the Education Working group, helping pilot a College and Career Workshop to address knowledge gaps for families and empower them to advocate for their children. Elder extended his service and became VISTA Leader for the 4th cohort of AmeriCorps VISTAs. He developed a Community Benefit Agreement training, designed to highlight strategies of engagement with developers to address community needs. He served as the point person for the LA Promise Zone to coordinate communications around the federal preference point process and monitors grand-funded activity around the Promise Zone.
Recently hired by the Mayor's Office of Economic Opportunity to manage the LA Promise Zone, Elder will advise and lead the implementation of LAPZ strategies along with HUD, YPI and various City departments.
Accomplished neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing leader with extensive expertise in collective impact, place-based initiatives, underwriting, financial reporting, project management in both the private and public sector, Erich Yost is an expert proficiency in financial reporting, process and policy development, organizational development, problem resolution, risk management and competitive market analysis. He is internal and external client focus-driven leader able to successfully orchestrate complex relationships and work environments to produce continuous improvement in performance and results. He additonally build top performing teams and provide staff with the leadership, resources and motivation to achieve goals. Implement advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, report and effectively address business, financial, operational and relationship/partnership issues.
Philip Armstrong supports data collection efforts across working groups, develop protocols for information sharing on impacts and outcomes, manage yearly and quarterly updates to Promise Zone data tracking sheets and Initiative Score Card, track development of new metrics and data visualizations, and staff the Data and Evaluation Task Force. Since retiring from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Philip has served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania and The Gambia in West Africa, received a Master of Planning degree from the University of Southern California, and served three other terms in AmeriCorps programs.
Ashley Wolfe is a program associate focusing on building the capacity of the LA Promise Zone partner members through providing support in working groups as well as task force groups, developing collective action agenda, and assisting in formulating strategies for implementation. Lastly, to research potential federal, state, local or philanthropic funding opportunities that can help fill gaps to provide recommendations to the HUD Community Liaison for the LA Promise Zone Funding Bulletins for funding aligned to the LA Promise Zone Strategic Goals, Objectives and Activities. Ashley is a recent graduate from Humboldt State University, receiving a B.A. in International Studies and a minor in Spanish. She spent the majority of her college career focusing on issues related to third world development, including a year of study in Santiago, Chile. This is her first year serving as an Americorps VISTA.
Moriah Schindler is a recent graduate of the University of Southern California, where she received her B.A. in International Relations. Moriah's main focuses during her college career were education and genocide awareness, working at the USC Shoah Foundation as an Education Department Intern, and tutoring elementary school children at 32nd Street Elementary. As the communications associate for the Los Angeles Promise Zone, Moriah will cover all public relations and communications tasks, such as the newsletter and the twitter account. Moriah will also act as a liasion between different organizations and the Promise Zone, to ensure proper communication between all team members.
Andrea Barahona is the Senior Program Associate VISTA Leader. She currently supports the Education Working Group. It is her second year as an AmeriCorps member, she had previously joined YPI as their Volunteer Engagement Project Leader where she helped with recruiting volunteers for after school tutoring and successfully managed a committee who hosted a resource fair for the MacArthur Park Community. Andrea graduated from Biola University with a Bachelors of Arts in International Studies and received her TESOL certification.
Nathaniel King III is a recent graduate of the University of Central Florida, where he received a Master’s in Public Administration. His undergraduate background is a double major in International and Global Studies, and Spanish. Nathaniel has experience as a graduate assistant working in higher education with non-traditional student populations such as graduate and international students. As a program associate, Nathaniel will aid in building capacity by providing support in working groups as well as task force groups, developing collective action agenda, and assisting in formulating strategies for implementation for LA Promise Zone partner members
