Elder joined the LA Promise Zone in early 2016 as a Program Associate, where he played a key role in supporting the implementation of LA Promise Zone strategies. He staffed the Education Working group, helping pilot a College and Career Workshop to address knowledge gaps for families and empower them to advocate for their children. Elder extended his service and became VISTA Leader for the 4th cohort of AmeriCorps VISTAs. He developed a Community Benefit Agreement training, designed to highlight strategies of engagement with developers to address community needs. He served as the point person for the LA Promise Zone to coordinate communications around the federal preference point process and monitors grand-funded activity around the Promise Zone.
Recently hired by the Mayor's Office of Economic Opportunity to manage the LA Promise Zone, Elder will advise and lead the implementation of LAPZ strategies along with HUD, YPI and various City departments.
