Youth Policy Institute's VISTA Leader

The LA Promise Zone VISTA Leader will have a key role in supporting the development of the initiative. The VISTA Leader acts as the team leader for the VISTA members on the Operations Team. S/he support the development of the partnership by recruiting and evaluating new partners for the Initiative, meeting with Partner organizations to identify collaborative opportunities, identifying organizational needs, arranging capacity building trainings as appropriate. S/he supports the LA Promise Zone members in the City’s Mayor’s Office, the HUD Community Liaison, leaders at the Youth Policy Institute a and partners by managing the review process for federal preference point certifications, Mayor’s Letters of Support and tracks and reports on grant activity in the LA Promise Zone. S/he also provides staff support for the LA Promise Zone Leadership Council and organizes the bi-annual LA Promise Zone Partner Convening.

All applicants must have held a previous VISTA Position in order to apply for the VISTA Leader Position.

Youth Policy Institute Communications Associate

The YPI Communications Associate will have a key role in the development of the Promise Zone communication plan to build awareness about, and support for the LA Promise Zone. The Communications Associate will be responsible for developing engagement strategies to inform local residents about the Promise Zone and the Promise Zone Partnership, including the upcoming Promise Campaign. S/he will develop and build the Initiative’s social media presence, managing Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts. The LA Promise Zone Communications Associate will produce a monthly newsletter, and regularly refresh the Promise Zone website. As part of the LA Promise Zone Operations Team, the YPI Communications Associate will also support the activities of one of the LA Promise Zone’s standing working groups, task force groups and grant teams providing the research and administrative support needed to further the collective work of the LA Promise Zone Partnership.

Youth Policy Institute Program Associate

The YPI Program Associate will have a key role in implementing the LAPZ Strategic Plan objectives and activities that build out the LA Promise Zone strategies with timelines, quantifiable goals, activities, and partners. The YPI Program Associate will support the expansion of federal grant activities for grants such as the Promise Neighborhoods federal grant work and/or the Community Based Crime Reduction federal grant into the communities within the LA Promise Zone, The YPI Program Associate will conduct primary and secondary research to create a set of evidence-based policies and practices appropriate for addressing LA Promise Zone goals, and will help convene stakeholders in strategy development and action plans through the LAPZ working groups, task force groups and grant teams. The YPI Program Associate will draft and edit at least one policy briefing, reflecting the research that has been conducted during the year of service.

  • Must be eighteen years or older

  • Must have skills and experience in relevant areas
